  1. Takeoff or Landing?

Take-off, as my home airport is MDW, and landing there is…well, if you know, you know.

  1. Do you enjoy the culture or scenery more when you travel?

If I had to choose, I’d say the culture, but I really just enjoy the people watching.  You learn so much traveling, but being able to experience how other cultures live, love, interact, celebrate, cook…there just isn’t anything better.

  1. Do you have a unique or special story regarding flying or aviation that you would like to share?

In 2018, there was a horrible snowstorm in Chicago the night before I was to fly to Playa Mujeres with a group of 30 people. My flight was at 7am & all flights were canceled early on out of ORD, except ours. ORD is 40 minutes from me, on a sunny day, so we knew we had to give ourselves enough time to safely get to the airport.

3 am. Flight still wasn’t canceled,  we hopped in an Uber, the expressway wasn’t yet plowed and there was at least 10” of snow on the ground. Took us 2 hours and arrived to an empty airport, except our gate. We boarded, and they rushed us to quickly sit, buckle, and they did overhead announcements while we taxied. In a matter of minutes, we were on the runway getting de-iced, we were clear to take off and I can see the snow plows in front of us clearing way. I watched them turn out of the way, and we weren’t halfway down the runway before we were taking off, what felt like straight up, in an active blizzard.

The view going from white everywhere then through the clouds and just as quickly as we took off, we see bright blue and sun.  That United Pilot really must’ve wanted to get out of there too!

I remember being so nervous, as I was always an anxious flyer, but proofing the manuals and seeing how they have a plan for EVERYTHING, really has put my mind at ease.
